1981.766* (HNY!)

Last year, in September, i was contacted by the calendar with some ‘news’. I had turned 30.

Responding in a typically British fashion, i decided to bolster my collection of 70’s + 80’s funk-disco records and make a 30 track mix (it has been pointed out to me that technically i am in my 31st year. thanks, douche bag)

Anyway, slightly belatedly, Happy New Year!

* 1981.766 is what you get if you’re on a long and boring train ride, and decide to look up the year of each song add them together and divide by 30, resulting in the mean. occurred to me afterwards that the median might have been more appropriate, but i decided i was sad enough already.

crazysickdope mix. fact.

What we have here ladies and gentlemen is a compendium of straight-up raw as carpet-burns breakbeats from all sorts of sources, blended, cut up and pickled by Mr Galactus, who also transforms breaks and samples into full-length bare-naked instrumental tracks, ready for lyri-ri-ricysts to bump burp over them. Paris Hilton came to my album launch

I’m all about the productive procrastination these days, so in my spare moments (aka when I should be working) I’ve been putting together a new mixtape of old Brazilian music. It’s called dirty old bossa nova and you can download it right hurrr.

Anyways we had the launch party tonight and my ol’ pal Paris came down to show some love.

Thanks Paris!

Brownswood Bubblers Mixtape

bubblers mixtape

It’s good when music is free, and even better when it’s legal. Better still when the free, legal music is actually good. If you see what I mean.

Hats off to the Brownswood crew, then, for the Best of Bubblers mixtape. It’s got a bunch of highlights from the first three compilations in the series, and a couple of cheeky previews of number four. It’s got that Mayer Hawthorne tune on there, plus tracks from west-coast mentalist Flying Lotus, beat generation golden boy Bullion, and some other characters who I’ve never heard of but are probably a bit good.

Free download here. Thanks Gilles.
