Skating in East Africa-ca-ca-ca

From the New York Times:

Before Jack Mubiru, a father of the skateboarding scene in Uganda, could build a half-pipe in his native Kampala in 2006, he had to avoid paying a construction fee, so he fabricated a story about building a private enclosure for a pet crocodile. Most local officials — and neighborhood residents — had never heard of skateboarding. Six years later, the sport has spread from the skate park to the streets, attracting children as young as 5 and adult women. Its profile is growing throughout eastern Africa, with skate parks built or planned in neighboring Kenya and Tanzania. Proponents of skateboarding say it gives participants a welcome leisure activity in countries where there are few other options. ‘‘There is not much else for younger people to do,’’ Mubiru says. ‘‘So many people want to skateboard.’’

Love it! When they open the skate park in Kenya you ALL have to come visit and teach me how to do a kick-flip.

It’s bad enough that Nic Cage is everyone, now he’s trying to take over the animal kingdom.

Nic Cage cats:

Today on Park Street…

I cycle to and from work, and something strange happens almost every day, usually in the same spot – Park Street.

Si got tired of me saying “you’ll never believe what happened today on park street?” and suggested I blog about it.

Because we’re cat people, dammit!

So after much deliberation we have come up with names.

Our black kitty will henceforth be known as Otis, after Mr Otis Jackson also known as Mad Lib.

Our black & white kitty will be known as Jay, after a certain James Dewitt Yancey, better known as J Dilla.

We can speak to both of them as the same time by shouting “Jay-Lib”.

Who loves Kitty? (UPDATED)

Being impulsive like we are, me and Si went out last night and got ourselves two kittens.

One is black all over and the other is black and white.

We’re having a bit of trouble naming them so help us!

So far we’ve tried:

Eric B and Rakim

Chalky White (for the black one)

Nate and Warren

Whiska Lifa (gettit….GETTIT?)

Kunta Kinte

Starsky and Fluff

Obama and Osama

Marlo and Omar

And that’s as far as we got. It took us weeks to figure out what to call (dearly departed) Kyle and it was actually Emilie who came up with the name in the end.

Suggestions in the comments, thanks guys!

Omar’s comin’ back!

Awww yeah!

Michael K Williams has been confirmed to play the lead in an upcoming biopic of Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

From The Atlantic:

“Williams just agreed to play ODB. in an upcoming feature about the rapper’s life as told through the eyes of a 22-year-old intern named Jarred Weisfeld who becomes a manager. And, yes, it’s based on a true story. It’s called Dirty White Boy. “

Last night a DJ stole my girlfriend…

Here’s a picture of Si.

With everything you know about him, ask yourself why I’ve put a link to FHM below.

Read on, that’s all I’m saying.

This is how we do things in B-Town

That’s right, you don’t mess with the bus drivers. They’ll spark you out!

The worst thing is that this guy only got 17 months. And he’ll get out in half that time.
